How am I kept up to date as a volunteer?

Depending on how and where you volunteer, there will be a different way of working. If you are working at a specific site, a local coordinator will guide you and keep you informed. If, for example, you are providing support as a photographer or translator, you will be in direct contact with a Herita employee. We also strive to make all volunteers feel part of the Herita team: Heriteam. You will be kept informed by mail and through social media.

How much time can I spend on volunteering?

As much as you want ! How many days and for which event or project you want to volunteer is up to you. Some prefer to contribute on a regular basis, others prefer to work on a temporary project.

For some structural tasks, a volunteer fee is paid. If a compensation is applicable, it is indicated in the volunteer vacancy or communicated by the community manager. By law, you are allowed to work 52 days per year as a paid volunteer. Please note: this time limit applies to all volunteer organisations. If you also do paid voluntary work for another organisation than Herita, these days count towards the total.

Will I receive training?

If it is necessary to be able to perform certain tasks properly, training is provided. We also like to offer the opportunity to learn. If there is a demand for developing a new skill, we look at the possibilities together with our volunteers.

What are my tasks as a volunteer?

At Herita, we want to look at what your talents, skills and interests are. In this way we can put together a satisfying and useful package of tasks for you. The possible tasks vary enormously: assisting with administrative tasks, working in the gardens, minor restoration work, guiding visitors around, etc. Because the tasks are so diverse, we discuss together what suits you. Of course, you can also apply for one of the specific volunteer vacancies.

Do I work alone or in a group?

Some tasks you will perform alone, other tasks are done in teams. Herita believes it is very important that you experience the group feeling and that moments can be created to share experiences together.

Who can become a volunteer?

Anyone can become a volunteer. Sometimes there are conditions attached. If you are younger than 18, you need the permission of your parents. If you have a living wage, are retired or unemployed, or receive a health benefit, you must inform the relevant authorities. If you do not know how to start, we will be happy to help you find out.
